Abstract

This paper proposes a method to control the 3rd harmonic current of the open-winding 10 poles 12 slot PMSM for the torque ripple reduction. The conventional 3-phase star connected PMSM can utilize 5th and 7th harmonic, however, the open-winding PMSM can utilize 3rd harmonic which is intentionally increased by the magnet arrangement of 10 poles 12 slots motor. This shows some experimental results which show the effectiveness of the 3rd harmonic current control by using the open-winding dual 3-phase inverter for the torque ripple reduction.
