Abstract

A new ultrasonic computed tomography (CT) algorithm, which reconstructs tomograms from projections with data-missing parts due to opaque obstructions such as bone or gas in the body, is proposed. This algorithm estimates the missing information by iterative modifications on the projectional axis and the reconstructed image plane, respectively, using a priori information, i.e., the object's crosssection boundary and the outline of the opaque obstruction. The results of computer simulation and basic experiment show that 5–6 iterations give a good reconstructed image.
