Abstract
Interest in pile structure design for earthquake-resistant buildings has risen sharply after the damage caused to pile foundations by the great earthquake in Hanshin areas. Also, the increase of building structural size has required the use of larger diameter piles. However, there have been few studies on piles with a large diameter were applied. In this study, we examined the mechanism to shear failure due to the cracking of the pile by the three-dimensional finite element method.
