Abstract

For measuring reproducibly the baseband frequency response of a graded-index fiber, a mode exciter utilizing an ordinary step-index multimode fiber has been proposed. The input mode power distribution and the frequency response of the fiber with the exciter are altered very little for axis offset. Excited input mode distribution indicates that excitation of nearly all modes takes place.
