Abstract

The potential of coherent optical frequency domain reflectometry (C-OFDR) to measure an optical fiber longer than 1000 km was studied, using a 1.55-μm Er-Yb-glass laser with a narrow linewidth of 3 kHz as the light source. The efficacy of the method was confirmed for a long optical fiber transmission line. The measurement of a reflection at a one-way distance of greater than 1000 km was simulated, and a spatial resolution of about 130 nm was achieved.
