Abstract
The Y-Ba-Cu-O/Ag equilibrium diagram in oxygen atmosphere was studied. A high thermal effect was found when the silver concentration was increased to 35 wt.%. The peritectic decomposition temperature of the Y-123 phase is lowered from 1040 to 940 °C. The nature of the phenomenon is not due to a chemical reaction between silver and any phase of the Y-Ba-Cu-O system. It is explained as the result of a segregation of the Y-123 liquid decomposition products (BaCuO2 + CuO) from the Y-123 phase, performed by silver.
