Designing a wick for sodium recirculation of AMTEC cells

Abstract

A wick return alkali metal thermal to electric converter (AMTEC) which uses wick capillary force for sodium recirculation is discussed in this paper. The selection of suitable wick pore size, expected capability force and flow resistance have been examined. A thermal analysis program has been developed to determine the impact on various designing parameters. Heat transfer process and conversion efficiency on wick return-vapor fed cells have been calculated and heat loss reduction methods have been discussed.
