Abstract
This report presents the definition of developmental dyslexia (DD), and recent information on its mechanism, etiology, and inheritance. We performed a literature review that was designed to find all of the studies that have examined the relationship between DD and ophthalmological abnormalities. After combining the data from these previous studies with the ophthalmological findings from our own patients, we found that visual acuity, refractive errors, accommodation and stereopsis were not associated with DD. In addition, we also briefly discuss the magnocellular theory in DD, and introduce a joint statement from the AAP, AAO, and AAPOS that provides details on the current position of these organizations.
