Abstract

We successfully improved the measurement of distributed strain along optical fibers, which previously only took the strain dependence of the Brillouin frequency shift into consideration. This improvement was achieved by including an evaluation of the temperature dependence of spontaneous Brillouin backscattering power, in order to separate the thermal effects from the frequency dependence.
