Abstract

The influence of the addition of Sr, Ca and Ba (up to 0. 1%) to the AlCl//3-NaCl-KCl electrolytic bath operating at 280 degree C and 0. 5 A/cm**2 on the particle size distribution, alumina content and recovery efficiency of aluminum powders was studied. The shape of electrodeposited aluminum is modified by the additives. A low alumina content and coarsened size distribution are attained by a single addition of Ca(0. 005 wt%) Ba(0. 02 wt%) or Sr(0. 02 wt%).
