Abstract

In recent years, new construction has decreased, and the existing building stock has increased; therefore, energy saving in stock buildings is important for reducing energy consumption in the consumer sector. Window renovation is an effective and easy energy-saving method, and renovated windows can demonstrate excellent thermal-insulation performance. This study investigated the indoor thermal-environment improvement effect and energy-saving performance of an apartment house with window renovation. The measurements in the winter showed a reduction in the vertical temperature difference and cold drafts owing to windows installed inside. Furthermore, the predicted mean vote (PMV) fluctuation range became smaller, and there was a reduction in the duration for which the PMV was less than -0.5. Moreover, the results indicated a reduction in power consumption of an air-conditioner because of installing inside windows.
