Abstract

An alkali metal thermoelectric converter is a direct thermoelectric converter using a β″ alumina solid electrolyte of Na+ ion conductor. To develop the thin-film electrode which determines the performance of a sodium thermoelectric converter, we have been engaged in research and development of the serial-parallel technique and found that it is essential to reduce the internal resistance in a unit cell. This paper reports the results of power generation using Mo thin-film electrodes and the experimental and theoretical discussions on the influence of the internal resistance on the cell performance.
