Fabrication of large melt-grown (Sm 0.5Gd 0.5)Ba 2Cu 3O y superconductor and its trapped magnetic field

We have studied suitable seeding methods for fabricating a c-axis textured binary mixed (Sm 0.5Gd 0.5)Ba 2Cu 3O y, bulk with a single grain and also have systematically investigated the interfacial reaction between various seed crystals and samples. We succeeded in fabricating a single-grain (Sm 0.5Gd 0.5)Ba 2Cu 3O y bulk with a diameter of 53 mm. The trapped field magnetization was about 0.5 T in a sample with dimensions of 20 × 20 × 5 mm 3 at 77 K.
