Abstract

This paper proposes a new frame recovery method for screen to camera communication (SCC). SCC is a signal transmission system using a display as transmitter and a camera as receiver. In case of using a CMOS sensor camera, a captured video is distorted by rolling shutter effect which causes bit errors. Against the rolling shutter distortion, we propose a model of distorted video frame and a frame recovery method. In order to recover the frame, we insert known symbols to a transmitted frame. The frame is recovered by solving an optimization problem using the inserted known symbols. To evaluate the proposed method performance, we conduct an experiment using commercial devices. The result shows that the proposed method can accurately recover the transmitted frame and improve bit error rate compared to a simply binarization method and an adaptive binarization method.
