Abstract

The mechanical strength of the YBCO can be enhanced about 7 times by adding Zr to the YBCO matrix embedded with Ag particles. The role of Zr is studied in this report. The 123-phase in contact with CuO partially melts at 970 °C and contributes to reduce the voids, whereas fine BaZrO3 precipitates prevent the sample from collapsing during partial meliting and contributes to enhance the mechanical strength.
