N2 - Large c-axis oriented single-grain samples of LRE-Ea-Cu-O with LRE = Nd and Sm have been prepared by the melt-process in a reduced oxygen atmosphere. We found that adding Ag to the starting materials worked very effectively in order to circumvent the problems which we encountered in the melt-process of large samples. With the c-axis aligning perpendicular to the sample surface, we successfully synthesized single-grained samples which are 18 and 33 mm in diameter for LRE = Nd and Sm, respectively. The strength of the trapped magnetic field at the center of a LRE = Sm sample was 0.96 T at 77 K. This value is approximately one-half larger than a melt-processed Y-Ba-Cu-O with a similar size.
