Abstract

In view of the wide use of optical cables, the establishment of optical connector technology which ensures the simple connection of optical fibers and the required transmission quality, is urgently needed. This paper examines: (1) index-matching materials for reducing the refractive-index discontinuity between the endfaces of optical fibers; and (2) an endface polishing technique which does not change its refractive index. 18 refs.
