Abstract
A new transfer model vehicle system for automatic horizontal transport, especially in short-turning-area applications, has been developed in our laboratory. It is driven by permanent magnet (PM) linear synchronous motor (LSM), and can operate efficiently in orthogonally-crossed-guideway network in mass-reduced mode. This paper presents a fundamental study of the PM LSM vehicle running on such network guideways with two crossings. The experimental results have shown a good agreement of the vehicle motion with the demand pattern in network running operation.
