Abstract
The Schwingungs Reibung and Verschleiss (SRV) test machine is widely used to measure the coefficient of friction of various lubricants, especially the coefficient of friction of engine oil. Testing temperature is usually below 300°C. In the conventional method, the coefficient of friction depends on heating time and heating temperature at higher temperature. A new method has been developed to measure the coefficient of friction for hot rolling oils that are operated above 300°C. A series of experimental tests are carried out to evaluate the new method. In this method, the coefficient of friction of base oils at higher temperature can be stably measured, and the effect of the additive agents on the coefficient of friction can be evaluated. Moreover, the difference between the coefficients of friction of commercial hot rolling oils can be evaluated by the new method.
