New PM parts for VVEL (variable valve event and lift system)

Abstract

These new PM parts (Link A and Input Cam) have been developed for the VVEL (variable valve event and lift system). This VVEL system can continuously vary the valve event angle and lift over a wide range from an exceptionally small event angle and small lift through to a large lift. By virtue of this, the system offers the potential to improve fuel economy and power output. This system consists of a multi-link system with no spring so that the movement is sufficiently quick. Link A plays an important role in this link system. The input cam can change from a rolling movement to a swing movement. Both parts need strength and tribological characteristics.
