Novel bi-directional optical amplifier using AWGs for dense-WDM systems

Abstract

A novel bi-directional optical amplifier (BOA) using arrayed-waveguide gratings is presented. The BOA can optically amplify dense-WDM signals in which upstream channels and downstream channels are allocated arbitrarily in the same wavelength region.
