Numerical analysis of relation between AC loss characteristics and geometrical parameters of multi-layer polygonal conductor assembled by HTS coated conductor

Abstract

This paper presents numerical studies on influences of geometrical parameters on AC loss in 2-layer cable conductors assembled by YBCO tapes in polygonal arrangement. By using the numerical model developed in our previous works, the AC loss characteristics of the 2- layer polygonal cable assembled by the YBCO tapes are analyzed with changing the cable geometrical parameters such as the tape width and the tape-to-tape gap. The numerical results show the strong influences of these parameters on the AC loss characteristics. Based on the numerical data, the effects of the decrease in the tape width and the tape-to-tape gap on AC loss reduction were evaluated. The numerical results also give the important information for the design of the multi-layer YBCO cable conductor.
