    Abstract

Traction drive is the method of transmitting power through the EHL oil film existing between a pair of rotating bodies. A traction drive CVT as an automotive transmission must transmit a large amount of power in a limited space. Therefore, the conditions of such traction drives are very severe. The authors observed the traction surface of a disc after the endurance test by means of a scanning electron microscope and made theoretical examination of the oil film thickness of the traction drive for automobiles as well. By using a basic prototype of the half toroidal CVT, variations of slide/-roll ratio versus high oil temperature were also measured. The test data is presented in this paper.
