Abstract

As architecture for large scale variable length packet switch whose capacity reaches Tera bit/sec, deflection routing based multistage interconnection network is attractive for its simple routing process. Authors have proposed a new deflection routing based switch where switch elements are interconnected in ring topology and input port are distributed within a ring. In this paper, performance of this switch is compared with conventional deflection routing based switch. Results show that required amount of hardware of output modules of the proposed switch is significantly reduced compared with conventional switch by allowing applied packets to take turns many times in the ring. Finally, performance of the switch is also compared with knockout switch, and its effectiveness is shown.
