Abstract

The time taken for the recovery of visual acuity after exposure to a glare source with a duration of 1.6 s or less, was determined by visual experiments. Background luminance was set to 0.10 cd m-2, 0.32 cd m-2 or 1.0 cd m-2. The recovery time increases as the exposure time increases. At every luminance of the glare source, recovery time clearly grows shorter as the background luminance increases. The recovery time is determined by the product of the luminance of the glare source and the exposure time.
