Abstract

Online and offline spaces, have various purposes. However, both use diverse kinds of implements to let users express their characteristics. For instance, users might express their identity offline through certain kind of furniture or electronics, while online they might use icons and colors to help express that identity. Based on these facts, people are influenced by various experienced factors such as circumstances and education in self-expression in a certain given space. Applying an offline situation based on experiences, people can configure an online space appropriate to one's purpose. In this study, we search for people's own classifying system, building relation between the products and people's own color application method by investigate on some essential products to make up one's own room which is the most basic living space. Under the standard of 6 mat "Tatami" floored room (286×382cm), the Japan's most common private place, we searched a method to observe configuration of space which consisted on applying one dimensional function and two dimensional function, and proposed a process to analyze the results obtained by this observation method, taking environment and context into account. In conclusion, we proposed a new interface design to configure a space by adopting offline factors into online space.
