Reversible hydriding/dehydriding properties of new Y3Al2 hydrides

Abstract

Hydride phases of Y3Al2, namely Y3Al2H6.5 and Y3Al2H2.2, were newly formed. Y3Al2 was hydrided to Y3Al2H6.5 at 373 K and 3.0 MPa of hydrogen, and Y3Al2H6.5 was dehydrided to Y3Al2H2.2 up to 873 K at 0.1 MPa of helium. Furthermore, partial reversible hydriding/dehydriding reactions between Y3Al2H6.5 and Y3Al2H2.2 were confirmed for the first time in the Y-Al system.
