Abstract

The liquid crystalline features of main-chain liquid crystalline polyolefin, poly(methylene-1,3-cyclopentane) (PMCP), were investigated by DSC accompanied by optical microscope. A glass transition and a endothermic peak, which was derived from transition from liquid crystal to isotropic phase, were detected in the 2nd heating process of a DSC curve at a rate of 5°C/min analysis. The corresponding transitions were also observed in the cooling process. PMCP showed shape memory effect.
