Synthesis and magnetization of high-Tc bulk superconductors and their application as superconducting permanent magnets

Abstract

We synthesized the c-axis oriented single-domain Ag-bearing Sml23 superconductors with 36 mm in diameter and magnetized them by either static field or single pulsed-field. By using the Sml23 bulk superconductor magnetized by static field, we succeeded in fully magnetizing the Nd-Fe-B plate with 50 × 50 × 5 mm3 in size by scanning the plate over the bulk superconductor. As another example, we present the construction and performance of a face-to-face superconducting permanent magnet system, which is driven by magnetizing the Sml23 superconductor cooled to 35 K by the pulsed field technique we developed.
