Abstract

Losses and baseband bandwidth changes caused by a splice in a graded-index multimode fiber have been investigated theoretically. Splices are classified into three categories, and their influence on mode conversion coefficients and baseband frequency response has also been investigated. Transmission characteristics for splices in cascade are also investigated.
