Abstract
Turbulent flows in two types of open channel trench are experimentally and numerically investigated. The flows are analyzed by using a particle image velocimetry (PIV) and a modified three-dimensional k-ε model. Considered here are a flow in a full-width trench and that in a half-width trench. Spatial and temporal characteristics of velocity vectors in the trench section are successfully described by applying the PIV. Mean velocity and Reynolds stress distributions are obtained by using the PIV and the k-ε model, and their characteristics are discussed with respect to the different trenches. The two methods are verified through the comparison of their analyzed values.
