This paper aims to clarify the development process of kagu-cho (furniture) television design in Japan. The literature research on Saga, one of the first Japanese kagu-cho television, resulted in following five findings.
1) The word "kagu-cho" was firstly used in commercial advertisements. This expression influenced on the birth of kagu-cho TV design.
2) In early time, "kagu-cho" didn't particularly mean "Japanese style".
3) Saga became a symbol of kagu-cho TV with its Japanese product name and mass advertisements.
4) The first Saga exhibits four main design features: projecting top board, speaker grille, legs harmonized with the television body, and natural-wood texture.
5) Later, Saga was developed into a series. The series models show various designs that differ from the first Saga.
