N2 - A curl antenna has been proposed as a radiation element of circular polarization, and its array has been used as a DBS receiving antenna. The curl elements are newly fed from the outer arm ends of the curled sections, called outer-fed curl (OFC) elements. The OFC array antenna has the advantage that all the elements are simultaneously excited from a single feed point. This paper presents a previous development in an OFC array antenna. Special attention is paid to the formation of a linearly polarized (LP) radiation beam. The OFC elements of right- and left-handed winding senses are used to construct the array antenna, and the radiation characteristics are investigated on the basis of the numerically determined current distribution. Since the OFC elements support traveling wave currents, the array antenna is expected to show wide-band radiation characteristics.
