N2 - We have studied the effects of sub-micron Gd2BaCuO5 (Gd-211) particles on the microstructure and the magnetic properties of ternary melt-textured superconductors (Nd0.33Eu0.33Gd0.33)Ba2Cu3 Oy, (Nd0.33Sm0.33Gd0.33)Ba2Cu3 Oy, and (Sm0.33Eu0.33Gd0.33)Ba2Cu3 Oy. High-resolution transmission electron microscopic observations showed that there is strong compositional fluctuation in the REBa2Cu3Oy matrix, and the RE rich clusters 3-10 nm in size are distributed in the matrix, which are the candidates for pinning centers. Magnetization measurements revealed that a strongly developed fishtail is observed in all the samples. The peak position, its height, and irreversibility field is dependent on the chemical composition. The NSG-123 sample with 10 mol% Gd-211 exhibited the critical current density of 100 kAcm-2 at 77 K and 2 T for H∥c-axis.
