Laser tomography using a high-speed digital CCD camera (frame rate 9000/s) and a newly developed light collection system having high spatial resolution, named “Multi-color Integrated Cassegrain Receiving Optics” (MICRO), for monitoring light emissions in OH- and CH- bands, and Mie scattering from droplets were simultaneously applied to a premixed-spray flame to elucidate group combustion behaviors of droplet clusters. It was confirmed that some parts of unburned spray stream issued from the burner port rapidly disappeared due to preferential flame propagation and the other portions of the spray remained to form droplet clusters and acted as fuelvapor sources burning in diffusion combustion mode.
