An interferometric optical isolator that employed a nonreciprocal phase shift was studied. The nonreciprocal phase shifts in magneto-optic waveguides were calculated at a wavelength of 1.55 μm. The magneto-optic waveguides included a CeY2Fe5O12 (Ce:YIG) layer as either a guiding layer or a cladding layer. When the Ce:YIG layer was used as a cladding layer, the nonreciprocal phase shift had its maximum with a high-refractive index guiding layer. The magneto-optic waveguide with SiO2/Si/Ce:YIG structure is a practical and promising candidate for a nonreciprocal phase shifter in the interferometric optical isolator.
