N2 - The grid array antenna is conventionally fed from its grid end and forms a linearly polarized main beam in a backward angle-fire direction. This paper describes the radiation characteristics of two types of grid array antennas, a single-layer grid array antenna and a double layer-grid array antenna. Both antennas are fed from their center terminals. These single-and double layer grid array antennas are investigated numerically. As a result, a radiation beam normal to the antenna plane is realized by using appropriate configuration parameters. The difference of the gains between the upper-fed and lower-fed grid arrays is very small.
