Improvements in a disposable ultrafiltration cell and additional ultrafiltration equipment for continuous monitoring of hemodialysis are described. The blood inlet and outlet of the ultrafiltrate cell were improved without adversely affecting the spiral channel mechanism so that the blood circulation of the cell became smooth. Coagulation and hemolysis were not observed. Compared to an earlier cell devised by the authors, the blood pressure of the blood inlet of the cell was decreased, and the ultrafiltration mechanism was improved in two ways. First, the ultrafiltrate spiral channel was made to coincide better to the blood spiral channel. In addition the area of the ultrafiltrate spiral channel was optimized. Since most dialysis patients with renal disease have severe anemia, any sampling loss must be minimized. By using an indwelling device, blood loss can be eliminated.
