For multiprocessor architecture (MPA) software radios, allocating the functions to the processors appropriately and controlling multiple interruptions between the processors are important issues in achieving real-time processing ability. This paper describes the design and evaluation of Japanese personal handy phone system (PHS) software implemented in an MPA software radio platform for the realization of full-duplex real-time communication. A novel API between the CPU and DSP programs is shown that achieves real-time performance. Average DSP load and processing delay characteristics of the PHS software are measured; the results show that real-time communication was successfully achieved.
