The slide-ring gels have sliding crosslinks, and Disodium cromoglycate (DSCG) aggregates into columns in water and shows liquid crystal structures by the alignment of the columns. Here slide-ring gels containing lyotropic liquid crystals as a solvent were formed by crosslinking the dispersion of polyrotaxanes in DSCG solutions. The slide-ring gel with DSCG exhibited birefringence under polarizing microscopy. When the gel was heated, the liquid crystalline phase changed to an isotropic phase. The transition temperature was higher than that of DSCG solutions. This is probably due to some influences of the networks of the gels upon the arrangement of the columns.
