Effect of initial density and detonation condition to explosive powder processing for Ti-Al intermetallics

Shock self heating synthesis (S-SHS) processing has become one of the most powerful and attractive powder metallurgy routes for intermetallics to control microstructure in final products and to produce various types of intermetallics and their composite materials. In particular, authors are concerned with explosive powder forming of TiAl intermetallic system; 1) reliable recovery testing apparatus and conditions is designed and completed, 2) microstructural observation are made to investigate the effect of detonation conditions to chemical synthesis of Ti-Al intermetallics, and 3) optimum explosive forming diagram is determined for actual production of TiAl.
