Experimental evaluation of an adaptive noise control system using window vibration for boat noise

Some boat noise is loud and is transmitted into rooms of apartments and offices near canals in Tokyo. Our aim was to counteract boat noise to realize silence in rooms by means of an adaptive noise control system with window vibration. Here, we propose a multi-point system for adaptive noise control based on attenuation of window vibration propagation. The system controls window vibration by one or two vibrators to suppress local vibration of the window surface and reduce the transmission of boat noise. The results of the experiment were evaluated in terms of sound pressure level and distribution of vibration. We found that the area of vibration reduction became wider and the sound pressure level became lower when the system was used. It was confirmed that the vibration reduction with a pair of vibrators was effective when they were placed symmetrically.
