Experimental study of electron-phonon interaction in MgB2

From precise analyses of resistivity data and Raman scattering spectra from MgB2 single crystals, we have extracted the electron-phonon (e-p) coupling constants and specified the relevant phonon mode and electronic bands that play a main role in the superconductivity. It has been demonstrated that the strong coupling of the E2g boron vibrational mode with the σ-band holes governs the normal state conduction and the high-Tc superconductivity mechanism. The smaller gap on the π-bands found by k-selective Raman scattering measurements is reconciled with the weak e-p coupling and large scattering rate in these bands.
