N2 - The superconducting energy gap, 2 DELTA , in YBa//2Cu//3O//6//. //7//4 has been measured directly by far-infrared absorption in small particles embedded homogeneously in 50 mu m-thick polyethylene films. The radius of the particle ranges from 3 to 6 mu m, the average being about 4 mu m. The measurements are performed at 295 K and 1. 6 K in the wavenumber range from 23 to 400 cm** minus **1. At 295 K, the absorption coefficient increases rapidly with increase in the wavenumber, but tends to level off above 300 cm** minus **1. If the temperature is lowered down to 1. 6 K, the absorption becomes undetectable at low wavenumbers. It begins to rise at 40-50 cm** minus **1.
