Mechanism of Texture Formation during Dynamic Recrystallization of Ti-49 mol%Al

Uniaxial compression tests were conducted in the temperatures ranging from 1223 to 1473 K and strain rates from 2.0xl0-5s-1to 1.0xl0-3s-1. The characteristics of the texture formed during dynamic recrystallization were investigated by calculating an orientation distribution function. The formation of a fiber texture with the main component (032) was confirmed. The examination of texture sharpness at the true strain of about-1.8 showed that the fiber texture became sharper with a decrease in peak stress which appeared in true stress-true strain curves. When the peak stress was relatively low, the texture developed monotonously with increasing strain even after dynamically recrystallized grains totally occupied the specimens. It was concluded that strain induced grain boundary migration contributed to the formation of new grains and resulted in the development of the texture.
