Japanese architecture promotes traditional lifestyles in harmony with nature. Residences that use natural energy are effective measures against global warming. Sustainable housing designs and lifestyles are therefore increasingly important in reducing negative environmental impacts. We conducted measurements in an environmentally symbiotic house with a double-deck engawa-style veranda in a sustainable design laboratory that implements passive ventilation techniques. This paper presents our measurements related to natural ventilation effects in summer.
