Novel techniques of neutron powder diffraction and their applications to superconducting oxides

The time-of-flight (TOF) neutron powder diffractometer Vega, whose wide solid angle enables us to collect intensity data very efficiently, was utilized for the structure refinement of (K0.87Bi0.13)BiO3 prepared at high pressure. Partial profile relaxation improved R factors more or less in Rietveld refinements of superconductors and related materials. An integrated software, REMEDY, for whole-pattern fitting combined with a maximum-entropy method was successfully applied to the determination of nuclear densities in HgBa2CuO4+δ.
