Road intersection moving object detection by 360-degree view camera

This paper presents a new approach in detecting moving objects at road intersections by using 360-degree view camera THETA. The camera is installed at a corner of the intersection. We have experimentally found that images from single THETA can capture the all directions of a road intersection. Furthermore, we propose a new method to detect moving objects from THETA images. Through the real experiments, we could confirm that our methods can detect moving objects such as pedestrians, bicycles and wheelchairs effectively, with a small false positives rate.
