Service description model and toolkit for ubiquitous computing

In ubiquitous computing environment, a large number of hardware, software and multi-media contents will be available on network. The services provided by them should be synthesized to create a complex and useful service. For this purpose, a new network service platform - STONE (Service synThesizer On NEt) was developed in the University of Tokyo. In STONE system, how to describe the service that user required is important. A service description method based on Input-Output Interfaces Model and Data Flow Diagram is proposed in this paper. A criterion basing on XML is put forward too. A toolkit used to accept user's service requirement and create the XML document is also described.
