This paper investigates a design method of a permanent magnet machine by using the new sintered magnet. The advantage of the new magnet is to realize arbitrary orientation direction. Furthermore, the magnet has higher degrees of freedom in its shape than the conventional Neodymium-Iron-Boron sintered magnet. Therefore, permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with the magnet can obtain high durability against the irreversible demagnetization and high torque density. The experimental result reveals that the PMSM can obtain large torque by using the flat shape permanent magnet which changes the magnetized direction. The simulation results confirm that the magnet can obtain high demagnetization durability by changing magnetized direction in the edge of the magnet. Finally, a PMSM for the traction motor is designed by using this technique.
